Phil Jennings is WPFF and WNLI’s Business Underwriting Representative in Green Bay and Appleton. Except for his birth, Phil has spent his whole life in the great state of Wisconsin.
He was born in St. Augustine, Florida when his father was stationed in the Navy in the early 1950’s, then grew up in Milwaukee. Phil has four children and seven grandchildren, all of whom reside in Green Bay.
Phil attended John Marshall High School in Milwaukee. He was a diver on the high school swim team and was also a member of the golf team. Golf was the sport that Phil excelled at, and he played college level golf at UW-Platteville. Phil even had hopes of become a professional golfer.
“Since I was a teenager my passion has been golf,” Phil said. “I was not good enough to make a living at it but almost. I wanted to become a professional but didn’t quite have the ability. It was close, but no cigar.”
Phil loves the Wisconsin four—Packers, Brewers, Bucks and Badgers. And over the years, has met some interesting sports figures—such as Muhammed Ali, Tom Landry, and Hank Aaron, just to name a few.
The most interesting job outside of radio that Phil has experienced was working in a spice blending facility. It didn’t last long—just a week—as he quickly discovered that dust allergies and spices are not a good combination. He also did not care for the ever present aroma of spices that seemed to linger with him even after several showers a day.
After going through some personal issues and difficulties in the Milwaukee-area, God brought Phil back to Northeast Wisconsin and right to Bethesda Christian Broadcasting. Phil likens the new mission statement at Bethesda Christian Broadcasting to the ‘Left Behind’ book series that prepares believes for end times. “It really gives me this feeling like we’re getting believers ready for a war,” Phil said. “And in a way, we are—but in a good way!”
