Barb Schaefer is WPFF and WNLI’s Traffic Director and Wellness Coordinator. Barb lives in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin with her husband, Rick, of 40 years. Rick is a USPS mail carrier. Barb and Rick have two sons, Jason and Ryan, two daughter-in-laws, Stephanie and Heidi, and three grandchildren, Sydney, Lola and Ethan.
Barb also loves animals and has two dogs—one that is a puppy—and a horse. Barb enjoys horseback riding, bowling, and walking. She has been to India not once, but twice. She went to India with her sister, whose husband was from the country.
Even though Barb was born in Grinnell, Iowa, and then lived in Illinois until 1961 before moving to Sturgeon Bay, Barb is a Packer fan through and through. In fact, the Packers are her favorite sports team—a tradition that was handed down to her from her mom. “I can’t help it. My mother was a great fan and it just grew on me,” Bard said.
Barb’s first professional job was as a telephone operator. She worked in a building on South Third Avenue in Sturgeon Bay. Then she moved down the same street to the Door County Advocate for her longest career so far as a proof reader and typesetter—what would now be considered the work of a graphic artist.
Barb’s passion for God is what brought her to work at WPFF/WNLI. “I was looking for a meaningful job and thought being involved with Christian radio would help me on my walk with God,” Barb said. “Working at the radio stations has helped me keep my focus on God and his many blessings. We are blessed to see his hand in peoples’ lives every day.”
